ISLAMABAD: Over 3,000 personnel of Islamabad police and Rangers will ensure the security of mosques and other sensitive installations during Eid holidays.

More than 1500 police personnel have been deputed to patrol residential areas since most people travel to their native towns on Eid, leaving their houses empty.

SSP Traffic Dr Moeen Massod said that special squads had been deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during Chand Raat and Eid. He promised that action would be taken against miscreants who violate traffic laws or misbehave on the roads. Police will be present at mosques to ensure smooth flow of traffic and guard sensitive locations.

More than 300 police personnel will be deputed at Faisal Mosque where the biggest congregation of Eid will be held. Rangers will ensure the security of the diplomatic enclave and key government installation located on Constitution Avenue.

Walk-through gates and CCTV cameras have been installed at the entry and exit points of main mosques in the city.

On the special directions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, all SHOs and SDPOs will ensure the security of peoples’ properties in their respective areas.

Ministry of Interior has been told by intelligence agencies that terrorists might target the Eid congregations, mosques and key government institutions. The ministry has also asked politicians to keep their movements during Eid incognito. Many parliamentarians had planned to spend their Eid with flood victims. Additional reporting by Sehrish Wasif
