Recognition: Walk held to mark National Working Women’s Day

FAISALABAD: An awareness walk was held here on Saturday to mark the National Working Women’s Day.

It was organised by the divisional administration and Women Development Department to mark the International and led by Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain and MPA Anjum Safdar.

It started from Zila Council Chowk and ended at the Clock Tower Chowk after passing through the Circle Road and Katchery Bazaar.

The participants carried banners and placards with messages and slogans in support of working women inscribed on them.

The commissioner said the walk aimed at increasing awareness about the rights of working women among the public.

He urged that public and private organisations must ensure a safe and conducive working environment for the women.

He lauded the efforts of working women who, he said, were contributing towards progress and development. He said these women deserved respect and acknowledgment.

He said that the divisional administration had taken several steps for the development of women and had provided congenial atmosphere to them at government offices.

MPA Anjum Safdar highlighted the steps taken by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for the welfare and empowerment of women.

She said the Women Empowerment Package had been introduced for the economic and social welfare of women and spoke volumes of the Punjab government’s seriousness and efforts for women.

She said several seminars, walks and other awareness programmes were being conducted at tehsil, district and provincial levels for the recognition of the services of working women and

Additional District Collector Syed Bilal Haidar, Assistant Collector Shafiullah Khan, EDO Asif Tarar, Social Welfare DO Chaudhry Sarfraz, Gender Specialist Muhammad Ehsan, Deputy Director (colleges) Muhammad Idrees, Assistant Collector Mehr Shafqatullah Mushtaq, Assistant Director (colleges) Shazia Hamdani and Sandal College Principal Nargis Farooq also participated in the walk.
