A 10-member delegation from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, visited the Islamia University Bahawalpur on Friday to review academic and research activities.
The delegation led by Dr Qasim Hayat included Dr Nasr Minullah, Dr Faraz Bhatti and 4 PhD and 3 MPhil scholars from the Attaur Rahman School of Applied Bio-Science (ASAB). The delegation also met IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Mukhtar.
The delegation visited the IUB’s Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies and expressed pleasure over research being carried out there. The delegation proposed a study of plants and herbs found in Cholistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. It said 64 herbs from Cholistan had been found quite helpful in treatment of various diseases.
The delegation said they had found some herbs in Cholistan which could help control the fungi harming tunnel farming.
IUB Director Dr Shazia Anjum briefed the delegation about the ongoing research activities at the institute. She said that the Cholistan desert had four kinds of plants and herbs that could be effective in diabetes treatment.
