LAHORE:

District & Session Judge Nazir Ahmed Ganjana on Tuesday again summoned, on January 15, 2013, two  former MPAs and one MNA on four petitions filed by the Regional Election Commissioner Lahore.

The petitions have been filed against former MPA Amna Butter of the Pakistan Peoples Party, former MPA Rana Asif Mehmood of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and MNA Begum Shehnaz Shaikh of the PML-Quaid for having dual nationalities.

The petitioner says that the three respondents “made false declarations while filling their nomination papers”. The one filed against former MPA Syeda Majida Zaidi of the PML-Q alleges that she lied to the election commission about her BA degree. The petitioner says that she lied under oath.

The petitioner

The petitioner has requested that the two former parliamentarians and two incumbents “be tried in accordance with law”.

The petition against Zaidi was adjourned, also till January 15, 2013, after her counsel told the court that the matter is being heard by the Lahore High Court.

The judge directed that the summons for Butter, Mehmood and Shaikh be sent to the SHO concerned. He asked the SHO to appear before the court if the notices were not served by the next hearing.

At the last hearing, a notice had been issued to Butter. The court was told on Tuesday that it could not be served because she was not in the country.
