Mishaps: Five die, eight injured in road accidents

Most incidents involve motorcyclists.

At least five people were killed and eight injured in road accidents in various cities of the Punjab on Monday.


In Ghukar Mandi, a woman was killed and her son injured when they were run over by a truck on Wianwali Road. Police said Muqadas Nazir, 45, and her son Amir Hamza, were on a motorcycle when a truck reversed over them. The woman died on the spot, while Hamza was taken to a hospital, where doctors said that he would likely survive. The truck driver was arrested.

In Kotli Sahian, five people were injured when a motorcycle ran into another. Furqan Ashraf was on his way on a motorcycle with his mother and aunt when he ran into an oncoming motorcycle. Two men on the other bike were also injured. The accident took place on GT Road. The injured were taken to a hospital, where they were later reported to be out of danger.

In Adam

In Dodanwali, a motorcyclist skidded off the road after he hit a stray dog that was crossing the road. Mistri Muhammad Amin was taken to a hospital in Gujranwala, where doctors treating him said that his leg was broken.

In Sialkot, a man died and his brother was severely injured after the motorcycle they were riding ran into a tree on Wazirabad Main Highway.  Passers-by took them to a hospital, where one of them, Akbar, was pronounced dead. His brother, Karim, was reported to be out of danger.

In Adam Sahba, a sixth class student died after he fell from his motorcycle and was crushed by an oncoming vehicle. Police said Muhammad Umar, a resident of Chak 120-P, was on his way home when the motorcycle he was riding on skidded. Witnesses said when the boy fell on the road, a van ran over him, killing him on the spot. Police arrested the van driver.

In Sargodha, a youth was run over by a bus on Jhang Road. Police said Muhammad Irfan was riding a motorcycle when a speeding passenger bus hit him near 92 Mor. He died on the way to the hospital.

In Khanpur, a man died after he collided with a cart. Police said Abdur Raheem was riding a motorcycle which collided with a cart when he tried to avoid an oncoming bus. He died on the spot.
