ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha said that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) urge the government to reduce taxes to save the compressed natural gas (CNG) industry and provide relief to the consumers.

He said that Ogra should convene an immediate meeting with the APCNGA to settle on the CNG price formula according to the orders of the Supreme Court.

“We are absorbing huge losses daily and the meeting scheduled for November 26 is unsuitable to the situation as the stakeholders cannot wait any more,” Paracha said in a statement, adding that the pricing formula should be acceptable to all and must be in favour of the consumers.

He said the CNG industry expects that Ogra will formulate such a price which will protect station owners from absorbing more losses and will lessen the burden on the masses,” and added that “we expect from the government that taxes and surcharges will be reduced to give genuine relief to the people and to bring CNG prices at par with July 1, 2012 rates.

“The move will benefit the public directly and will save billions of dollars to be spent on petroleum imports in the future,” he added.
