Jamia Fariduddin: Five remanded over mosque fight

LAHORE: Judicial Magistrate Mian Ijaz has remanded five men in police custody for three days for fighting with each other over the control of a mosque. Johar Town police produced Kamran, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Wakeel, Muhammad Zaigham and Bilal Manzoor before the magistrate on Tuesday, seeking further remand so they could investigate the matter. According to the police, the five men belong to rival groups fighting for control of Jamia Masjid Fariduddin. The rival groups are led by Din-i-Alam, the mosque’s muezzin, and Mubashir, the vice president of the mosque committee. The two sides got into a fight at the mosque a few days ago in which eight people were injured. Some of the men on both sides were armed.
