A consumer court has issued notice to a restaurant for November 20 on a suit seeking Rs1,000,000 in damages from the eatery for allegedly serving substandard food.
Petitioner Shafique Ahmed submitted that he had visited the restaurant when on his way to Sheikhupura with some guests some time ago. He said they ordered two mutton handis, naan, roti, salad, soft drinks and ice cream.
Ahmed said that the food was clearly not fresh and tasted bad. He said his guests had eaten just the ice cream as the rest of the meal was inedible. He said that when he complained and sought a discount on the bill, the restaurant was shut down and he and his guests were threatened. He said he was forced to pay to avoid a beating.
The petitioner said that the experience had been traumatic and he had been humiliated in front of his guests. He said that Al-Khan Tonight Restaurant should be ordered to reimburse him, and also pay him Rs1 million as damages for “mental torture” and “humiliation”.
Muhammad Yasir, the cashier of the restaurant, told The Express Tribune that he would fight the case in the consumer court. He said the food that the petitioner and his guests had been served had been fresh and they had eaten most of it. He said they also insulted him when he presented them the bill.

Shafique Ahmed is absolutely wrong about this restaurant.I've been there many times to have lunch and dinner. The staff is very good and polite with their costumers. Its a restaurant of great food and a great standard so its totally hard to swallow a statement like "I was forced to pay to avoid a beating". I think to commit that you don't have the bill to pay is much better than saying such statements.
I have had to this restaurant several times a month. I never found the food with substandard quality. Shafique Ahmed must be wrong or may have some other taste which is why he did not like the taste of the food of this "Al-Khan Tonight Restaurant". The staff is very helpful and respectful. I have visited a lot of restaurants in Pakistan either in Karachi, Lahore or Peshawar. Never in any restaurant staff had ever insulted their clients even if some client abuse on them they never insult or humiliate any one of them. this is against the professional ethics of restaurant business. also from this news I have found, "He said that when he complained and sought a discount on the bill, the restaurant was shut down and he and his guests were threatened. He said he was forced to pay to avoid a beating." The restaurant suddenly shutdown is a questionable statement. he must be in a restaurant that is like a "dhaba" if he was tried to be beaten.
Looks like the case won't stand as its just the word of one against the word of another.......no independent proof, evidence for the court to decide whether the food was indeed stale or its a mere allegation.....it would have been a good idea to pay the bill, pack the remaining food and get it tested and then file the case on the basis of a negative report.

.Pakistani consumers have been exploited for long . it is now time for consumers to answer back and demand their rights . hope court gives quick justice and effect-es are well compensated. More power to consumers
If Khans of Al Khan Restaurant were become THE Khan, there would be more problems
