In a development towards completion of the 121-megawatt Allai Khwar Hydropower Project, water filling in the reservoir started on Tuesday.
With this, the project entered the completion phase and the power plant, comprising two generating units of 60.5MW each, was expected to begin production on a trial basis by the end of October, said a spokesperson for the Water and Power Development Authority in a press release.
Other main components of the project including a dam, 2.3km steel-lined tunnel, structure of power house and switchyard have already been completed.
The project will generate 560 million units of low-cost electricity per annum, leading to savings of millions of dollars compared to expensive thermal energy.
