LAHORE: The Technology Upgrading and Skill Development Company (Tusdec) has signed a contract during the visit of a European Union delegation, aimed at training at least 12,000 men and women from vulnerable communities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

According to a statement issued on Friday, foreign contribution to the programme will be 3.8 million euros.

Speaking to mark the occasion, Tusdec CEO Syed Anwar Ali Pervez said Tusdec will implement the four-year programme, seeking sustainable technical and vocational education and training in the tribal regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Fata. The training of modest tribal communities would make them part of mainstream economy and meet the need of the private sector for skilled manpower, he added.

Tusdec contributes to developing certified skilled workforce in the country by overcoming the hurdles in the way of market-oriented vocational training.

According to another statement, the headquarters for the training programme will be in Peshawar, where a facilitation unit will be set up to steer the entire project. Following the completion of training, the candidates will be provided full support in finding jobs.

As key stakeholders of the project, the private sector industry would be actively engaged in planning and governance of the training programme, it said. The trades and respective curricula will be identified keeping in view the requirements of the industry.
