Funeral held: Sabiha Jilani laid to rest

She was the first Muslim girl to be admitted to Forman Christian College.

Sabiha Jilani was laid to rest on Tuesday.


The funeral and burial at the Guru Mangat Road graveyard was attended by prominent politicians, lawyers and rights activists.

Jilani passed away on Sunday in Lahore at the age of 85 after suffering a heart attack.

She was the daughter of Maulana Salahudin Ahmed, editor of Adabi Dunya, the literary magazine.

She had married politician, late Malik Ghulam Jilani, and had four children, Asma Jahangir, Hina Jilani, Samina Tahir and Usman Jilani Malik.

She was the first Muslim girl to be admitted to Forman Christian College where she excelled in athletics. She was a staunch advocate of the rights of political prisoners during the 1960s and the 1970s.

The soyem gathering is at 131-E-1, Gulberg 3, Main Boulevard at 4pm on Thursday (tomorrow).

Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Senator Jahangir Badr, Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bindial and Attorney General Irfan Qadir were prominent among those who attended the funeral.

A great woman. Wife to a great man, and mother to two very courageous daughters. May she rest in peace.
