KARACHI:

The faculty members of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology demanded the dismissal of retired varsity officials who are working on extensions.

The teachers will not accept bureaucratic appointments of retired individuals at administrative posts, such as registrar, treasurer and examinations controller, said a joint statement by Prof Javaid Iqbal and Dr Ismail Musa who head the two campuses. “These individuals pocket millions of rupees in salaries every year, which could be used for refurbishing the cash-strapped university’s deteriorating infrastructure,” they said. The teachers criticised the recently advertised posts for university registrar, treasurer and examinations controller, saying that regular employees were willing to oversee these administrative posts on meagre allowances.

A joint movement will be launched for the appointment of a permanent vice chancellor as the post has been vacant since February.
