Water issues: Pakistan, Bangladesh in collaboration

FAISALABAD: Pakistan and Bangladesh can share their experiences of efficient use of water as both countries are facing similar challenges of shortage of the commodity, says Vice President Water Partnership of Bangladesh and Member Regional Council Dr Khundkar Azharul Haq.

Speaking at a meeting with University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad here on Monday, Haq said both countries faced similar water problems due to Indian involvement in the matter.

Highlighting his country’s achievements, he said though Bangladesh was not producing cotton, it was world’s second largest cotton exporter after China. Bangladeshi scientists have also developed a rice variety with a significant quantity of Vitamin A to prevent blindness among people.

Haq expressed his willingness to collaborate with UAF scientists in research on roses and diseases associated with flowers.

Earlier, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad pointed out that UAF had undertaken many international projects in collaboration with scientists and organisations of developing and developed world.

He expressed the hope that Haq’s visit would certainly pave the way for collaboration and visit of faculty and students to each other’s country to share their experiences.

He underlined the need for Asian countries in general and South Asian nations in particular to work together on climate change as it had severely affected people’s lives in recent years.
