JI announces strike following killing of party leader

Police sources said that unidentified men on motorcycles attacked the former town nazim's car.

KARACHI: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a one-day strike in Karachi to protest against the killing of party leader and former town nazim of Liaquatabad Dr Pervez Mehmood, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The former town nazim was targeted and killed in North Nazimabad while he was accompanied by his friend.

Police sources said that unidentified men on motorcycles attacked their car and killed both men.

Protesting the killing, people attacked Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and staged demonstrations near Sohrab Goth and burned tyres to stop traffic.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabta Committee members condemned the killing.

The announcement for the strike was made after his funeral prayers.

Four killed, two injured in different incidents

Two people were shot dead in separate incidents of firing in Malir and Baldia Town, whereas two bodies were recovered from Ram Swami and Siddiq Wahab Road.

Two others were injured in Liaquatabad in another incident of firing.
