Robbery and murder: Man jailed for 10 years

Dhani Bux and his accomplices had shot dead a man, Muhammad Bux, and injured another.

A man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on counts of robbery and murder by a district and sessions court on Friday.


The second additional district and sessions judge, Malir, Munawwar Sultana, convicted Dhani Bux under Section 265-H (i) of Criminal Procedure Code for his role in a murder during an armed robbery at a shop in Bhains Colony. The accused was slapped with a 10-year jail term and a fine of Rs200,000 and seven-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 for the two crimes, but the sentences will run concurrently.

In case of default, he would spend one more year in jail for murder and six months more for robbery.

Dhani Bux and his accomplices had shot dead a man, Muhammad Bux, and injured another when they put up a fight against them at the Al-Mezan Steel and Cement Shop on September 17, 2008, according to the FIR (559/08). On hearing the gunshots, the neighbouring shopkeepers rushed to the shop and got hold of Dhani Bux while his accomplices escaped.

“While there was no evidence available on record that the deceased died from the shots fired by [Dhani] Bux, but he was present along with his accomplices for commission of robbery with common intention,” the judge stated in the verdict.

“Cardiac respiratory failure due to acute head and face injuries, resulting from a firearm projectile, was the cause of his [the victim’s] death,” the judge cited from the medical report. Rizwan Shehzad
