ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday rebutted Chaudhry Nisar’s allegations of bribing some media persons as a conspiracy to defame the journalist community.

Talking to APP in Islamabad, Kaira lashed out at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader, saying that not only the allegations were baseless but in turn had tried to malign President Asif Ali Zardari too. Terming the jibes deplorable, the minister said that by attacking the office of the president, Nisar showed he cared little about the dignity of the office.

The information minister said that if Nisar had any evidence to back up his claims‚ he should make them public and disclose the names of those who had distributed the money and those who had received it.

Kaira said that  Nisar, as a senior politician and the leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, should not adopt such an attitude as it did not do justice to his stature.

He also categorically denied that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had anything to do with a campaign to defame the judiciary, however, the PML-N had a recorded history of attacking the court during its regime.

The information minister said that the PPP has always respected the judiciary and implemented its verdicts.

Lauding the profession of journalism, Kaira said that journalism is a noble profession and the media has always raised its voice against tyranny‚ injustice and dictatorships.
