MIRPUR:

Various public servants have expressed concern over the reduction of the three-day gazetted Eid holidays to just one day in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). They termed the decision a deliberate move to prevent them from celebrating Eid with their loved ones back home.

“This is violation of basic rights to suppress the government servants posted in Mirpur, Bhimber and Kotli districts of Mirpur Division from celebrating Eid at their hometowns,” said Raja Muhammad Rasheed, Central Secretary General of AJK Chapter of All Pakistan Clerks Association.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the government employees, headed by leaders of various of their organisations called on Mirpur Divisional Commissioner (DC) Raja Amjad Pervez Ali Khan for cancellation of the official order.

The leaders threatened to take to the streets if the three-gazetted holidays for celebrating Eid were not revived in Mirpur Division by Saturday. They also warned authorities of going on indefinite pen-down strike soon after Eidul Fitr if their demands were not met.

The DC Khan assured them of forwarding their concern to the government for consideration. As reported earlier, the commissioner had, through an official order, announced cancellation of two out of three holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr for the government employees posted in Mirpur Division on the directives of the AJK Prime Minister Chaduhry Abdul Majeed.
