Milk prices: SHC puts commissioner on notice for August 7

KARACHI:

Karachi Commissioner was put on notice for August 7 by a division bench of the Sindh High Court on Monday after an application was filed by All Karachi Milk Retailers Welfare Association for contempt of court.

The association’s counsel maintained that the municipal officials were harassing members of the association on the pretext of checking the quality of milk and allege that the retailers were charging more than the original milk price. He alleged that municipal agents also fined the milk sellers for profiteering. The counsel requested the court to take notice of the municipal government’s actions who, he said, had even failed to fix the price of milk.

The bench heard the arguments and ordered its office to issue a contempt of court notice to the Karachi Commissioner for August 7.

The bench also directed the commissioner to send a senior official to court to explain the ‘state of affairs’.
