RAHIM YAR KHAN: A boy was rescued on Wednesday in a five-hour operation from a well he was digging.

Muhammad Ramazan, his father, a resident of Fatehpur Punjabian, told The Express Tribune his son, Simran, had been digging a well when he slipped and fell in. “Some mud fell on him but fortunately his face was not covered. This allowed him to keep breathing,” he said.

He said Rescue 1122 were called and started by giving him water to drink and provided oxygen to help him breathe easier. Rescue team incharge Zahoor Ahmad said an excavator was then brought to broaden the hole. He said it was important to finish the operation quickly as more mud could collapse and kill the boy. The boy was taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital for treatment where doctors treating him said his condition was improving.

Simran, speaking from his hospital bed, said some of the mud had fell on his face but he managed to keep it out. “My legs were under the sand for five hours and remained immobilised,” he said.
