Scare tactics?: House where journalist was killed now vandalised

LAHORE:

The house of British-Pakistani journalist Dr Shahid Qureshi was vandalised on Thursday, he said in a message from the UK.

Dr Qureshi is editor of the London Post and older brother of Faisal Qureshi, the London Post reporter murdered at the same property last year.

He said “mysterious vandals” had taken the name plates from outside the house, put glue in the gate lock, broken windows and stolen a water pump.

Dr Qureshi said that he suspected the incident was linked to the making of a documentary about the murder of his brother. “It seems as if the terrorists want to send a message to journalists in Pakistan,” he said.

He said he had informed British Police about threats to him and his family in the UK last month. He said a senior British parliamentarian has raised this matter with the British authorities. He said the Pakistan Journalists Association-UK (PJA) would issue a statement on the incident. He said he would send a complaint in writing to the police in Pakistan.

Dr Qureshi appealed to the president, prime minister and chief minister to order an investigation and provide protection to his family.
