A woman suffered burn injuries to her eyes and face in an acid attack in Ichhra on Thursday.
The police have established in preliminary investigations that two men and a woman broke into the house in Ichhra and attacked Zahida Begum and Shamim Bibi, said Qayyum Ahmed, naib moharrar at Ichhra police station.
He said that the police had received an application for the registration of an FIR and were awaiting the medico-legal report on the injuries suffered by Shamim Bibi, who was being treated for her wounds in a hospital.
The complainant, Mian Muhammad Tahir, husband of Zahida and brother-in-law of Shamim, said that the attack was carried out by brothers Ameer Hamza Butt and Mir Muavia Butt and their mother Nazima Bibi.
He said that they had broken into his house in Mohalla Sardarpura, Ichhra, while he was away. They beat up the two women, leaving Zahida unconscious.
He said that they had brought a bottle of acid with them and had tried to force Shamim to drink it. She resisted and some acid splashed on her face. He said that the attackers fled when he and some other neighbours, hearing the women’s cries, had entered the house.
Tahir said that he had quickly thrown cold water on Shamim’s face, otherwise her injuries could have been worse. He said her eyes were heavily swollen and doctors were yet to assess how badly her vision had been affected.
Tahir said that the attack had been motivated by revenge. He said that the brothers had recently been involved in a dispute and he had acted as a mediator. He said that the boys had been harassing girls in the neighbourhood. He had forced them, as well as their parents, to apologise at a small panchayat and they had been humiliated. He said they had later threatened him.
The police said that the Butt family had not returned to their home in the neighbourhood since the attack.

@True Muslim Paki .... Wake up brother!!!!! Harming any person is UNISLAMIC.
This type of attack on women in Pakistan is very common. What is wrong with Pakistani culture?
Banning acid will do no good - they will just find another way to exact their revenge. It's this culture of 'honor' and revenge that's the root of the problem.
Acid pouring on people mut be declared unislamic!
I seriously don't believe this acid cola story ...
These incidents give new meaning to the word crazy. What sort of twisted mentality would one have to attempt such a horrific deed. Wonder if it was simply revenge or the surety and sense of safety that if you are strong enough you can get away with any thing.
Last I checked our vigilantes were burning a deranged man for doing some thing not acceptable for majority. Oh my bad, this is not a case of blasphemy so obviously every one can read the report, may be utter two curse words and carry on with their lives. Who cares about human suffering any more.
Ban this Bloody ACID
What animals!
Kudos to ET for highlighting such cases consitantly!
And a very good suggestion from "Awans"! This is true - most countries have banned sale of concentrated Acids for individual users. This may be a right step in Pakistan!
Well so far government is failed in even curbing sale of Liquid Concentrated Sulfuric Acid which is mainly responsible for these incidents. Just ban it totally. All over the world Acid in Concentrated form is banned and also Cleaning materials are developed in such a manner that they will be dense and less harmful even it had close contact with the Body for a particular amount of time. Moreover most of the perpetrators know that they are above the law so they do these types of acts as Police dont take action against them. The role of Religious scholars in this case is pretty important and they should play a role in this regard and should teach the society that what ills they have and this stigma should me removed while people are already disappointed with NGOs as they just wait and then cash in on these girls by making their movies and winning medals and foreign trips and nothing else.
