BAHAWALPUR: Two people were beaten up in the Bahawalpur region in disputes flowing from exchange marriages.

Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Naseer Khan village near Alipur, told The Express Tribune that he had wed his daughter to Abdul Razzaq, son of Noor Ahmad, and married his son, Ubaid, to Ahmad’s daughter six and a half years ago.

Both girls returned to their parents’ homes some time after the marriages due to family disputes, he said.

He said that Noor Ahmad’s two son’s Bilal and Ayub kidnapped him on Friday.

“First, they shaved my beard and eyebrows. Then they poured kerosene oil on me and tried to set me on fire,” he said.

He said some neighbours rescued him upon hearing his screams.

SHO Najaf Shah said that police had registered the complaint and were lookings for the suspects.

In Uch Sharif, Kausar Bibi told The Tribune that she had married Azam 15 years ago and his sister was married to his brother.

“My brother used to have arguments with his wife,” he said.

“Her sisters and brothers broke my arm over this and tied me with the dogs,” she said.

She said that the assailants ran away when her brother arrived.

Uch Sharif police have lodged a complaint against three men and two women.
