LAHORE:

The appointment of Prof Asad Aslam Khan to five administrative posts at the King Edward Medical University and attached Mayo Hospital has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

Prof Khan is currently serving as acting vice chancellor of KEMU, pro vice chancellor, professor of ophthalmology at Mayo Hospital, principal of the Punjab Institute of Preventive Ophthalmology/College of Allied Vision Sciences and national coordinator for prevention of blindness.

Advocate Noshab A Khan moved the petition stating that all five posts were extremely important and the fact that a single person held all of them meant that the jobs were not getting the dedicated attention they deserved and the quality of service delivery at these institutions was suffering.

The petitioner said that there were plenty of senior professors eligible for these posts.

He asked the court to direct the government to ensure five different professors held the post and Prof Khan was removed from at least four of them.
