LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the city government to reimburse the Punjab University for expenses on a laptop distribution ceremony held on March 23 before the budget session of the Punjab Assembly. A law officer told the court that the cost of the ceremony (Rs10.61 million) would be paid to the university soon.

However, Justice Umar Ata Bandial directed him to ensure the payment is made before the upcoming budget session. The judge remarked that the funds meant for students could not be used for political events.  The judge was hearing a petition against the PU vice chancellor for arranging the function allegedly for the benefit of the CM Shahbaz Sharif and his brother Nawaz Sharif. The court will resume hearing the case after the budget session.
