The Orient Labs factory on Multan Road was built according to regulations and was submitted to regular inspections, submitted three employees on Tuesday of the factory which collapsed last February, killing 26 people.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Tariq Mehmood Zargham set May 26 as the date for the next hearing after Bilal Hussain, steam-boiler operator, Faiz Ahmed, factory ‘in-charge’, and Munir Ahmed, attendant, submitted affidavits in support of the factory owners.
They submitted that the factory building was strong and had been built in compliance with Ministry of Health rules and regulations. They said that the factory was inspected from time to time by the Civil Defence Department, the Ministry of Health inspection team and other departments.
Orient Labs chief executive Zaheer Iqbal and directors Zafar Iqbal and Zubair Iqbal are accused of negligence for running the factory in a residential area.
They are charged with offences under Sections 302 (murder), 324 (attempted murder), 290 (public nuisance), 291 (continued public nuisance), 427 (mischief) and 149 (collective responsibility) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
