Additional district and sessions judges on Saturday directed the Kot Lakhpat Jail authorities to have four prisoners examined at Services Hospital after they accused jailers of torturing them.
Muhammad Ashraf, Khurram Shehzad, Muhammad Raza and Humayun appearing before three judges in separate murder cases – alleged that the chief warder and two assistant warders at the jail tortured prisoners to extort money from them.
They said they had been beaten with batons and had all their belongings taken away after they refused to pay them. They said the warders would often demand a bribe from a prisoner to allow him to attend court hearings. Otherwise, they would send a message to the courts that the defendant was ill and couldn’t appear.
Two judges issued notices for May 24 and 26 to jail authorities and to the medical superintendent of Services Hospital.
