A consumer court on Monday ordered the owner of a computer shop to pay Rs60,000 as damages for selling a defective laptop.
The petitioner, Nadia Iffat, had said that she purchased a laptop from MSA Traders in Hafeez Centre on February 22, 2011 for Rs45,000. She said when she took it home the laptop did not work properly.
She said she took it back to the shop and got it repaired. However, it again faced similar issues as earlier. She said its speed was slow and it had other technical issues as well.
She requested the court to direct the respondent to pay her Rs100,500 as damages, including the cost of the laptop.
The court on Monday directed the respondent to replace the laptop with a new one or refund the price (Rs45,000).
The court also directed the respondent to pay an additional Rs5,000 for litigation charges and Rs10,000 for causing discomfort to the petitioner.
