A report recently compiled by the School Education Department has identified 34 elementary schools in Gujranwala for poor teachers’ attendance.
The report compiled by the Project Management Unit of the Punjab Education Sector Reform Programme refers to these schools as ‘schools with a high rate of teachers’ absence’ and has recommended immediate action to remedy the situation.
Of these, 19 schools are in Gujranwala tehsil, 12 in Wazirabad, seven in Naushera Virkan and five in Kamoke.
Gujranwala had been ranked the worst district in the province in an earlier survey of the Schools Education Department in terms of teachers’ attendance.
District Coordination Officer Muhammad Amin Chaudhry had on Thursday convened a meeting to review the reports. He had issued a warning to the executive district officer (Education) and directed him to take action against teachers in the schools identified in the report.
EDO (Education) Riaz Ahmed was not available for comment.
