FAISALABAD:

Police on Friday registered a kidnap and rape case against a hotel owner from Jhang three weeks after the incident when her family of the girl protested in front of the DPO’s office.

The family accused police of protecting the accused and victimising the family by registering a theft case against the girl and her family on the complaint of the his brother.

The girl’s brother said that she was abducted three weeks ago by Nasir Ghaffar, a hotel owner in Millat Colony. “He had wanted illicit relations with her but she refused. He picked her from her home, took her away and raped her,” he said. He said that the girl was later able to flee and told them what happened.

“My father, Mohammad Yousuf, and mother Hajra Bibi took her to Jhang police to lodge a complaint but SI Mohammad Khan refused to register the case,” he said.

He said the family then petitioned the area magistrate Kamran Rehan who ordered a medical examination.

“In the meanwhile, Jhang City police registered a theft case against the girl, her parents, my brother Tanveer Ahmad and uncle Muhammad Sharif on the a complaint by Sabir Ghaffar,” he said.

He said police had also arrested all men accused in the case. He said a medical examination at Jhang DHQ hospital had confirmed the rape.

Talking to media near the DPO’s Office, the girl’s mother said that the family were under great pressure to stop pursuing the case.

Speaking to The Tribune, SHO Mohammad Afzal said the delay in registering the case was on account of a formal complaint and lack of medical certificate.
