LAHORE:

The Lahore police is focusing on crime detection rather than prevention because it is far less expensive, said Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Aslam Tareen on Saturday.

Addressing a ceremony for the return of stolen goods at the Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) Model Town office, the city’s police chief said that the force also needed to learn to pre-empt crimes in order to regain the public’s confidence.

Asked by personnel about recent incidents in which policemen were beaten up by lawyers at the city’s courts, the CCPO said that the police had registered cases against the lawyers, though none had been arrested yet.

He said that they had met with the Lahore District Bar Association and Punjab Bar Council to address the matter. He said that they had been asked to cancel the licences of lawyers who had assaulted policemen.

The CIA recovered stolen property worth Rs2.4 million in 12 cases registered at 10 police stations in Lahore.

A stitch in time saves nine. I think everyone needs to learn that. Rather than mopping up in the aftermath we need to focus on preventing bad events from happening.
