One-day seminar: Oriental College pays tributes to Faiz, Meera Ji

Seminar organised by the Oriental College’s Department of Urdu to pay tribute to Faiz and Meera Ji.

“Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Meera Ji believed in socialist realism and successfully advocated the cause of oppressed humanity,” Muneeza Hashmi said on Thursday.


She was addressing a seminar organised by the Oriental College’s Department of Urdu to pay tribute to Faiz and Meera Ji. The event was divided onto two sessions. In the first session, Abid Hassan Minto talked about Faiz and his work. Later, Dr Ziaul Hassan and Dr Arifa, of the Oriental College faculty, read their papers on Faiz.

In the second session, the participants paid tributes to Meera Ji. The session was presided over by Rashid Dar, a nephew of the poet. Speakers, including Intezar Hussain, highlighted Meera Ji’s work. Urdu Department Chairman Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori, in his address, highlighted the significance of such seminars.

A large number of students and faculty members attended seminar.
