KARACHI: Former Pakistan wicket-keeper Saleem Yousuf has called for removing out-of-form Kamran Akmal from the Test format, urging selectors and team management to field the senior gloveman only in One-Day Internationals and Twenty20s.

Yousuf, one of the country’s finest wicket-keeper, believed that Kamran is not giving his best in the longer version and that Pakistan should now rely on young blood. “He is not playing well in Tests, so in my opinion Pakistan should prepare its youngsters for the longer version,” said the former Test cricketer.

Yousuf also claimed that Zulqarnain Haider and Sarfraz Ahmed should be given the opportunity and time to prove themselves in Tests, while Kamran should remain as the prime choice for limited overs cricket. “He is still very good in one day cricket and Twenty20s.”

Commenting on Zulqarnain’s 88-run knock that saved an innings defeat against England, Yousuf said he has shown great potential and has a bright future ahead.

“He came back strongly after getting out for nought in his first innings. This shows he has the ability to fight.”

Yousuf also felt that Pakistan is missing senior players in England, and believed that the outcome could have been different with them. “Mohammad Yousuf should have been in England from the first day.  The team wants Younus Khan as experienced players are required in tough conditions there.”
