LAHORE: Accepting the inspector general (IG) of Punjab police’s unconditional apology on Wednesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) disposed of a contempt of court case against him.

Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed had summoned IGP Habibullah Warraich while hearing a petition filed by DSP Saleem Sadiq and others, seeking promotion to the rank of SP.

Express News correspondent Shahnawaz Rai reported that IG Warraich tendered an unconditional apology after appearing in the courtroom and also told the court that the promotion orders will be issued by today.

He also said that he will not do anything in the future that might irk the court again.

The LHC chief justice ordered IG Warraich to submit a compliance report within a week.

The chief justice had given the remarks after being informed that the Punjab government had not yet promoted the petitioners despite court’s orders.

IG Warraich had on April 24 given an undertaking in court that the orders will be complied with. The court had been told on May 2 that a promotion board had been called to decide about the candidates’ cases.

The chief justice had also remarked that the barrack where Raymond Davis was held at the Kot Lakhpat Jail is currently unoccupied and the IG could be "locked" there.
