
Two men killed by police in an encounter in Mansoorabad on Sunday were identified on Tuesday.
This was the sixth encounter in the month of April involving Faisalabad police. With the number of men killed came to eight.
Police has registered an FIR against Imran, a resident of Okara, and Mansha, resident of Depalpur. The bodies remain at the Allied Hospital morgue as nobody from the families of the deceased came to claim them.
The encounter on Monday had occurred at Faisalabad-Jhumra Road near Wapda Town.
Police said a team led by Mansoorabad SHO Zafar Iqbal Ora had rushed to the site upon a report that two men were robbing commuters.
Ora said that the police chased them and told them to surrender near Mannanwala near Wapda Town.
He said the men opened fire at police. “They died from our return fire. A constable, Akram, was also injured in the encounter,” he said.
He said he was convinced they were hardened criminals but not aware if any cases had been registered against them.
While judicial inquiries have been ordered into all five earlier encounters, none has been completed yet.
Operations SSP Sadiq Dogar said that street crime any in the city possibly as a result of the criminal’s death in the shootouts.
He denied that any of the encounters were fake. He said that police had themselves requested the district and sessions judge themselves to hold judicial inquiries into these incidents.
