A consumer court on Friday issued notice to the manager of a filling station in Johar Town for May 9 in a suit seeking Rs322,375 in damages for allegedly using substandard lubricant.
Petitioner Sajid Mehmood submitted he had gone to the petrol pump on February 26 to get his car’s mobil oil, oil filter and air filter changed. He said his car started knocking and on March 20, when he took his car to a workshop, he was told that the its piston rings had been damaged.
Mehmood said he had gone to the filling station and brought the matter to the notice of the manager “who did not listen” to him.
He prayed the court to direct the respondent to pay him the Rs22,375 he had spent on getting his car fixed, Rs40,000 for the loss in business he had sustained as a result of not being able to use his car, Rs50,000 in lawyer’s fee, Rs10,000 in legal expenses and Rs200,000 for causing him “mental agony”.
Manager Muhammad Fayyaz denied the allegations, saying that the petitioner had not apparently taken care of his car. He said that he would pay double the amount if it was proven that he had used substandard oil.
