LAHORE:

The Punjab University Examination Department claimed to have nabbed on Friday a complex cheating scam involving a BSc candidate and a superintendant of an examination centre.

The candidate, identified as Shanzay Sadiq, was caught red handed while taking the Friday question paper to her house.

Sadiq, a resident of DHA Lahore, was enrolled as a private candidate, roll number 75213. She had been Centre no54, a PU exam centre at Wahdat Road.

The superintendant  was identified as Alia Anwar, an assistant professor at the Government College Wapda Town.

According to a press release, the candidate used to take the answer book home a day before the exam. She used to get the question paper at 8:15 am on the day of the exam, from Anwar outside the bank.

The candidate then used to take the paper home, solve it on the answer book at home and submit the book at noon.

The press release said that Examinations Controller Dr Liaqat Ali had formed a committee after suspecting misappropriation. The committee followed the candidate and the superintendent for eight days.

During a check, a team had found two lines blank in the attendance sheet, the release said. The members then waited for the collection and sealing of answer books. When they checked the bundle, they found that though 12 candidates had marked their attendance, there were 13 answer books in the sealed bundle, which included the Shanzay Sadiq’s answer book.

The release stated that Anwar had confessed to her crime and stated that she was the chief organiser. Professor Ali said that this was a success for the Punjab University’s examination system.

He said that the superintendent had been blacklisted while an unfair means case had been registered against the candidate.

He said that a letter would also be written to the Education Department to take departmental action against the assistant professor involved. He congratulated the investigation team which unearthed the whole incident.
