Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) scientific officer Muhammad Arshad committed suicide by swallowing poison over alleged mistreatment by a PARC director.
His family said that PARC Director Arshad Chaudhary had reprimanded Arshad on Friday after which he swallowed poison. He fainted and was taken to Allied Hospital where he expired on Saturday morning. Arshad, 45, had been working in PARC for 15 years.
The family said that Arshad had suffered from stress because the PARC director would use harsh language with him and give him more work than he could manage. Doctors treating him said they found a letter in his pocket that said, “I am committing suicide due to the PARC Director’s harsh attitude towards me. He would regularly insult me in front of other staff members.”
PARC Director Arshad said that the matter had been referred to the PARC Chairman. He said the allegations against him were false.

In my opinion Judicial inquiry becomes madatory. This should have been completed within just fifty days by First Suspending the indicted so called director( Arshed Ch.) In Punjab and nowadays most of the people do behave like Pharon. They have inbuilt genes of Rude, misbehaved with subordinates and characterless persons. Such persons must be treated like criminals and Target Killers after judicial probe and verdict by the court of law.
The average working class professional person in Pakistan deals with a lot of crap. Such a sad story. RIP, too young to go.
@stenson: sorry do not agree with your statement. Mistreat at work lead to this person having a mental break down. You read up further especially on cases from other parts of the word.
shame this happened in Pakistan, where this will not be taken seriously. May he RIP a great loss but not the end because thousand are mistreated in pakistan.
@stenson I dont agree as many people suicide when they unable to complete task and feel embarass so its not like that.
When people commit suicide over whatever reason, it often implies that they already have some psychiatric issues and that anything will push them over the edge. I would think that the supposed work harassment is only an excuse now to cover his existing mental instability.
He could have simply resigned and found another job, i know thats easier said than done but its better than suicide
Not only the director should be thrown out from his job but inquiry should be instigated against him for mentally torturing an employee which compelled him to commit suicide.
The direcror should be thrown out of the counsil.Y do such insensitive people exist,i dont understand
Dr. Zafar Altaf we miss you. This happens when Bradari and favouritism plays in institutes and people are appointed without merit
That is such a sad news. We already have less educated and dedicated folks in the public sector and those too subjected to egomaniac managers is a curse. Had these managers rose through ranks on merit rather than nepotism, they would have better idea of how to respect subordinates.
