KARACHI:

Four human rights petitions on removing oil tankers from Shireen Jinnah Colony were put off on Wednesday because the court did not have enough time to hear them.

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Gulzar Ahmed were set to hear the petitions that have been filed by Shagufta, Fazal Rehman of the People Lines Welfare Association, Mir Muhammad Yousaf Shahwani of the All Pakistan Oil Tanker Owners Association and Prof. Kulsum Lakhani. All of them had filed direct complaints which mean that they were appearing in person.

They have asked the Supreme Court to help remove oil tankers from this area. They either park there or wait for turn to be filled up. This has brought a host of social and environmental problems. The petitioners have named the Sindh administration and want the oil tankers to move to the Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal which is being built at the moment.

The bench put off the hearing till Thursday.
