Had it known the building was a police station, would it have dared to enter?
A wild boar strolled into Kohsar Police Station in F-7 on Friday, where it created a minor panic and injured a cop with its tusk before falling into a ditch, where the police shot and killed the errant scavenger.
The injured, Constable Sajjad Hussain, was stabbed by the boar’s tusk in the abdomen and had to be shifted to Polyclinic Hospital for treatment.
The police described his wounds as “serious but not life-threatening”.
Hussain was caught off guard when the animal, which had just entered the busy police station, panicked and hit him from behind. “The constable came in the path of the beast, which already looked enraged and confused on entering the busy area,” said a Kohsar police officer.
The constable, currently the driver for the Station House Officer (SHO), was standing by the SHO’s car, talking on a cell phone. The wild boar had been chased out of the nearby French Colony by children. In confusion, it entered the police station across the road through the main gate, which had been opened to allow a vehicle in.
It went straight at Hussain, who was facing in the opposite direction. He turned to face the animal at the last moment, but could not move out of its way and was hit in the abdomen, police officials said.
The animal was chased into a ditch near the under-construction police barracks inside the compound. A police official shot and killed the trapped animal with his pistol.
The body was still lying in the police station when this report was filed.
Wild boars have been ever-present on the streets of Islamabad since the city was born and have presented a danger to vehicular and pedestrian traffic alike. However, their numbers have swelled over the past few months.
Last month, a man died in a road accident caused by a wild boar on the 9th Avenue, after a seven car pileup resulted from a collision between a car and a jaywalking boar.
