MIRANSHAH:

A joint security operation by police and security forces entered its third consecutive day in Domel tehsil, Bannu with officials confirming the killing of a suspect, recovery of a terrorist's body, and destruction of several hideouts linked to wanted insurgents.

According to authorities, multiple terrorist compounds were demolished with explosives during coordinated search-and-clear missions. Among the destroyed structures was a hideout allegedly belonging to highly wanted terrorist commander Mulvi Naseer, also known as Gidarr. Security teams said the action was based on intelligence reports about suspects presence and activity in the area.

During a separate search sweep, forces recovered the body of another suspected terrorist identified as Asim. Officials said further verification and background checks are underway.

District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu Yasir Afridi said a suspicious individual was killed during a police encounter amid the ongoing operation. He said the suspect, disguised in a burqa, was attempting to flee the operational zone near Shagi Machan Khel when police tried to intercept him.

"When the police team signaled him to stop, he attempted to escape. He was killed in the ensuing firing," Afridi said, adding that the identity of the deceased could not be immediately confirmed.

Meanwhile, a jirga involving security officials, district administration representatives, and elders of the Ahmadzai tribe was convened to discuss the situation of civilians in affected localities, particularly Kotka Akbar Ali Khan, where some residents remain caught in the operation zone.

Sufian Khan, Chairman of Village Council Dogar Umarzai and a jirga participant, told The Express Tribune that officials assured tribal elders that no large-scale displacement would be ordered. However, civilians stranded in sensitive areas would be allowed to move when necessary under security supervision.

He said the Deputy Commissioner assured compensation for the families of three people killed and four injured during recent incidents linked to the operation.

Security officials also urged locals to clear dense wild vegetation that could provide cover to militants. Tribal elders responded that such clearing is usually carried out annually but was not possible this year due to militant presence. Elders said a final decision on cooperation measures would be taken in a local jirga.
