ISLAMABAD:
Justice Azeem Khan Afridi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued notice to the government on the bail application of PML-N lawmaker Anjum Aqeel Khan who was arrested for defrauding of Rs6 billion in the National Police Foundation.
Advocate Tanveer Iqbal contended before the court that his client was arrested, along with three other accused in the case whereas co-accused Laiq Ahmad Khan, a former director of NPF, was acquitted by the court.
He informed the court that other accused, namely Khuda Bux and Chaudhry Ahmad Khan, were granted bail by the court on medical grounds.
He submitted before the court that his client is a heart patient and has been hospitalised during police custody. However, despite treatment his condition is worsening and doctors have prescribed him medical surgery but the court of special judge central Rawalpindi turned down his client’s bail application on medical grounds.
He said his client’s health has deteriorated to the level that he bleeds from nose due to which his life is seriously at stake and after receiving the medical history, Aga Khan Hospital in Karachi prescribed his client urgent surgery.
He further argued that the case against his client was baseless and fake. He requested the court that the lower court has already granted bail to two other accused on medical grounds therefore till the final conclusion of the case his client may also be granted bail on medical grounds.
