LAHORE:

Additional District and Sessions Judge Saeedullah Mughal on Saturday granted bail to a family accused of poisoning a girl, after her parents told the court that they believed she had committed suicide.

The judge granted after-arrest bail to Bakht Bedar Shah and pre-arrest bail to his wife Razia Sultana and daughter Asia Batool, after the parents of Majeedan Bibi alias Sonia withdrew their case against them.

Complainant Sakina Bibi, mother of Sonia, and Karim, her father, told the court that their daughter was angry with them because they had refused to let her marry Waqar Shah, son of Bakht Bedar Shah, because they were from a different caste. They said that she had threatened to consume poison, but they had still refused. They said that they believed she had killed herself and that the accused had nothing to do with her death. Earlier, the complainant had lodged a case at Mustafabad police station against the accused under Sections 337, 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
