World cancer day: 85,000 cancer patient deaths every year

KARACHI:

As many as 150,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in Pakistan and 85,000 people die of this disease, said the Children Cancer Hospital Chief Executive, Dr Mohammad Shamvil Ashraf. 

These patients include 8,000 children, out of which 75 per cent do not survive cancer.

Ashraf shared these figures at a press conference on Wednesday, regarding World Cancer Day and the International Childhood Cancer Day, for which the hospital will hold programmes on February 4.

A ‘Continuous Medical Education’ will also be arranged on February 9, to include lectures and speeches on cancer for family physicians and pediatricians.
