LAHORE:

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed on Wednesday sought details of sugar stock and the price it had paid from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) till February 10. The CJ said the departments concerned cannot keep the courts in the dark any longer.

The CJ directed the TCP to submit record of its current sugar stocks and price in the market and the rates at which the TCP was purchasing it from the mills. Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique had filed an application in an already pending petition against black marketing, profiteering and hoarding of sugar.

He submitted that the TCP had already submitted that it was a business arm of the federal government under the Ministry of Commerce and acted on the direction of the Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet or the government for procuring stocks to be delivered to Utility Stores Corporation at a subsidy.
