Armed robbery: JPMC’s Dr Saleem Kharal shot dead in Karachi
Dr Saleem was the younger brother of Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Naeem Kharal.
Police officials ruled out any possibility of a target killing, saying that the doctor was killed while resisting armed robbers.
The incident occurred just as Dr Saleem, 52, who was accompanied by his wife and a driver, was passing by the Punjab Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of the Gizri police station.
South District DIG Commandant Shaukat Ali Shah said that two men attempted to snatch the doctor’s car, while it was stopped at a traffic signal. When Dr Saleem resisted, the men opened fire at him.
Dr Saleem sustained a bullet injury to his chest and was rushed to the JPMC, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
DIG Shah said that the victim’s wife also informed the police that it was not an act of target killing and confirmed her husband’s confrontation with the bandits.
His body has been handed over to his family, while a case is yet to be registered.
The Sindh government has taken notice of the incident and has asked the IGP Sindh to submit an initial investigation report.

I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE FOR MEETING SUCH A MAN KNOWN BY THE AS SALEEM KHARAL, IT WAS MANGLA WHERE WE HAD THE INTERACTION. HIS PERSONALITY WAS SOME WHAT MESMERISING, THE ONE DAY WE SPENT TOGEHTER WILL BE REMEMBERED BY ALL OF US. THE NEWS OF HIS DEATH WAS A SHOCK FOR ALL OF US AND ATTENDANCE AT HIS FUNEREAL WAS A REFLECTION OF THE LOVE HE HAD BEEN ENJOYING. He was my khaloo! Huge loss for us. I agree with u Fahim Ullah Qureshi Sir, i've always been a fan of his singing and also the way he used to entertain everyone by craking witty jokes. Saleem uncle used to bring life to our family gatherings and functions - such a wonderful human being he really was! Saleem Uncle, you'll always be missed like anything! :(
Dr saleem Kharal was a nice and gentle person I ever met. I will always remember him for his passion for music and jokes during his medical college days. He had natural talent to sing Urdu Ghazals and Sindhi folks music.He was tall but he used to giggle like a young kid. I lost one of my friend from college days. This is a real loss for people who know him from inside out. May Allah bless his soul.

The civil authority's zombie Era will be remembered as the Era of robbers, killings, bloodshed, target shootings, lawlessness and complete despotic rule under the cover of democracy. This despotic rule that will not provide protection to its citizens nor will it allow military to perform its duty and provide security to its citizens and cities. Very sad time in the history of Pakistan.

I had known Dr Kharal for a good twenty years. I am shocked and numb. The city has been taken over by zombies , animals and cretins. How long will this senseless waste of life continue.....

He was just few years senior too me in Sindh Medical College. Such a handsome and sober personality. His elder brother and renowned story writer Naeem Kharal was also killed in the prime of his life and again this tragedyin family. May God rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant the family and friends the courage and patience to bear the irreparable loss.
