Those talking about change should come into power first: Sharif

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that those who were talking about bringing change in the country should come into power first, adding that his party’s motto had always been change.

Addressing a party congregation after provincial representative elections in Peshawar, Sharif said his party will bring change in the country so that “the green passport is respected all over the world.”

Sharif, commending his party, said that during his tenure Pakistan was ranked as the top country of South Asia and other countries followed the country’s policy to move forward. He added that if the country had run at the same momentum as that of 1990, then there would have been no terrorism, extremism or suicide bombings and no youth would be roaming around jobless.

“If we get another chance, we will develop the country with the same determination.”

Sharif added: “No one could ever charge me with any case of corruption. The court found only one case of hijacking against me and had sent me to jail for 27 years… but later, when the court was freed, it was revealed that the case was fake.”

Bashing the current government, Sharif said that this was not the way a country is run. “Even a home or a shop cannot be run in this manner.”

Sharif said that he was offered five billion dollars during his reign but he didn’t accept it because he wanted to do “only what was best for the country.”

He said that his government did not fall down to the feet of others to beg for loans and all the development done in his era was through struggles and not by taking loans.

“We did not fall down to their feet like [former President Pervez] Musharraf did,” he said.

He said that the reason why the country was failing is because the government went to the world with a “begging bowl in hand”.

@Vigilant He never will. He's an eternal jouvelle. Motorway: when will he stop bragging about a small stretch of Moroway- the only thing he did. It's wrong for him to claim credit for the nuclear test. He just happened to be at the right place at the right time. And of course freezing of foreign exchange account caused a lot of doubt the state's credit worthness.
