Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Jamshed Dasti says that he opposes the creation of Bahawalpur as a province. He said that it was never a province in the history of the sub continent, except for being a state during British rule.

Dasti, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that he had spoken to President Asif Ali Zardari, who had supported the creation of a Seraiki province and had given his assurances that the PPP will create it.

He said that Zardari had stated that his arrival back in Pakistan will be a slap on the faces of all his opponents, especially those who were spreading rumours of a coup.

Dasti told The Express Tribune that President Zardari had said all government functionaries and officials of the PPP were present in Pakistan and that he would have never leave the people of Pakistan for a single moment.

According to Dasti, the president said that the people spreading rumours of a military coup were the same ones who were alleging that the president had run away from the country. He added that the president was recovering fast and was shifted back home after complete satisfaction from the doctors.

The State of Bahawalpur joined and supported Pakistan at it's most desperate hour, when efforts were being made to cripple this country right at birth. We didn't even have a car to recieve Mountbatten in, and Quaid-e-Azam used the state-cars of Bahawalpur to recieve the viceroy in.

The Quaid made promises to guarantee Bahawalpur's integrity and role in Pakistan, these corrupt politicians broke them all, very very tactfully. First, Bahawalpur's army which had been integrated into the Pak Army, was disintegrated as a unit and dispersed into other units, tactfully understanding that the Nawab may withdraw Bahawalpur's army to pressure the govt to keep it's promises. Bahawalpur joined Pakistan rather than India(despite Nehru's repeated attempts to woo the Nawab of Bahawalpur, including offering massive amounts of money in Britain - the Nawab refused to even meet Nehru).

The book "Legacy of Cholistan" by Nur-uz-Zamman Auj is an eye-opener, showing a part of Pakistan's history that our politicians try hard to forget. It is a history of Bahawalpur completely and faithfully putting it's trust in Quaid-e-Azam and standing by him when Pakistan was completely bankrupt and desperate. And it is a history of betrayal, when the Quaid's successors broke every promise our founding father had made, when Bahawalpur wasn't needed anymore.
