KARACHI:

A long wait for promised compensation may come to an end on December 5 for the people who were injured in 2009 and 2010 in terrorist attacks.

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan said that they would receive Rs500,000, and the families of the 115 injured people would receive Rs100,000.

He spoke to the media after reviewing the security arrangements at the main Numaish Chowrangi, on Saturday. He said that heightened security will be in place for the next 72 hours. He said there are threats of terrorist activities during the mourning processions on Muharram 8, 9 and 10, throughout the country. The army, along with police and paramilitary forces, has been put on alert.

At least 300 streets along the standard routes of procession, from Numaish to Imambargah Husainian Iranian Kharadar, would be sealed.

Thousands of policemen and rangers, 90 police mobiles, 15 fire tenders, nine APCs, and 45 ambulances would be deployed. Search mechanisms, including 30 walks-through gates, would also be arranged to scan the participants.

Wasan said that helicopter surveillance will also be present, and will be in touch with the main control room of the Central Police Office. Hospitals have also been alerted in case of any emergency.

@k. Salim Jahangir: This was always Pakistan's war.. Only that until 10 years back it was waging it against the outside world which after 9/11 turned inwards!
