KARACHI: The University of Karachi has identified the two students who attacked a lecturer from the department of psychology, Ala Shah, and suspended them on Thursday.

The suspended students, Noman Ali from the food sciences department and Mazhar Siddiqui from the economics department, cannot attend classes or take exams. Their educational records have also been sealed.

A disciplinary committee has been formed on the orders of the vice chancellor, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. It has been asked to submit its findings within seven days.

The final decision against the students will be taken by the disciplinary committee after the report has been completed.

The vice chancellor toured the university on Thursday morning after the four-day Eidul Azha vacations to inspect the new security measures deployed on campus after the attack and found them to be satisfactory.

The pro vice chancellor, Dr Nasir Uddin, has prepared the initial security plan in which students and outsiders without identification will not be permitted on campus. Separate parking lots have been made for each department and rangers will check all suspicious people entering the campus.
