Masood Elahi, a forest officer in the Capital Development Authority (CDA), was waiting at the school with a gun when he saw his ex-wife in a police car accompanied by two policemen. She had come to collect her son’s transfer certificate, police said.
“The police team was accompanying her on her request; she feared Elahi (her ex-husband) could harm her,” said a police spokesperson.
“On seeing the police with his ex-wife, Elahi panicked and fired upon the two police officials before shooting Gulshan Bibi,” the spokesperson added.
Nadeem Riaz, a sub-inspector, was hit in the chest and the head, and died on the spot, an officer said. Bibi and Constable Muhammad Ashraf were injured. Elahi escaped from the scene while firing in the air.
The officer said Bibi had suffered bullet injuries in the face and chest while the constable was shot in the chest and a hand. “They are under treatment at Pims and are in critical condition,” he said.
Police sent several teams to different locations in search of Elahi. However, police said, he was arrested from Charsada in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Police ascertained his location with the help of geo-fencing, a technique used to trace people with the help of their cell phones, a police official said. He was locked up in Sabzi Mandi police station for interrogation. Police registered a murder case against Elahi, who is a resident of New Katarian in Rawalpindi.
Police said Elahi and Bibi had divorced a few years ago while their son who was studying in grade nine at the boys’ school was living with his father. Over a week ago, the boy had come to live with his mother. Elahi, upset, quarrelled with Bibi and threatened to kill her if she does not return his son.

I always sensed that there are Taliban in I-10/2 due to promotion of Jihadi outfits and banned organizations such as Hizbut Tahrir in I-10/2. I think there is a need of a clean sweep operation!
The ISB police have been doing a really good job in maintaining peace in the city. May this innocent police officer who lost his life find peace in another world.
